Call and Response in an intergenerational conversation. It brings together photographs by four artists from Aotearoa who explore questions of sovereignty and resistance: Tia Ranginui (Ngāti Hineoneone), the late Di ffrench (Pākehā), Seb Charles (Waikato-Tainui), and John Miller (Ngāpuhi).
Ranginui's works are presented alongside those of ffrench to suggest subtle consonances between their practices. Both artists interested in the body and in the ways in which power is structured. Both use carefully fashioned images to reflect on the past and look towards the future. Charles and Miller are united by a commitment to documenting and promoting activist movements. Recent pictures by the former are juxtaposed with archive images by the latter, revealing shifting emphases as well as a persistent commitment to positive change that spans decades and generations.
