Tarika Sabherwal immigrated to Aotearoa from India with her family at the age of 11. Although secular, her family engaged in ritualism and shared stories from the Mahābhārata and the Rāmāyaṇa, epics that ground the Hindu faith. The stories—with their rich descriptions, powerful characters, and mystical journeys—inspire the images that appear in Sabherwal’s works. Recent exhibitions include In Another Life (special project), Season, 2024; aaj kal (group), CoCA Centre of Contemporary Art Toi Moroki, 2024; duck duck loose (group), Meanwhile, 2024; He Kiri Tuna, Season, 2024; Kiss Taraf (group), The Art Paper HQ, 2023; and Re-imagined Devotion, Window Gallery, 2023.
