Established in 2022, Season is a partnership between artist-curator Jade Townsend (Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi) and writer-curator Francis McWhannell (Pākehā). McWhannell is Executive Director and Townsend is Creative Director. Based in Grey Lynn, central Tāmaki Makaurau, the gallery places a strong emphasis on curatorial rigour and public engagement. It embraces interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary practices and presents a broad range of art forms, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image, object-based art, and adornment. Season seeks to platform emerging and established artists who push boundaries conceptually, formally, and politically. Māori, queer, and otherwise marginalised artists are given particular prominence.
