Established in 2022, Season is a partnership between artist-curator Jade Townsend (Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi) and writer-curator Francis McWhannell (Pākehā). McWhannell is Executive Director and Townsend is Creative Director. Based in Grey Lynn, central Tāmaki Makaurau, the gallery places a strong emphasis on curatorial rigour and public engagement. It embraces interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary practices and presents a broad range of art forms, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image, object-based art, and adornment. Season seeks to platform emerging and established artists who push boundaries conceptually, formally, and politically. Māori, queer, and otherwise marginalised artists are given particular prominence. Our primary photographer is Samuel Hartnett and our primary installer is Jamie Chapman.
