Old scores is Levi Kereama’s first solo exhibition. His are story-paintings, conjuring narratives shared and personal, well-worn and reimagined.
Tūpuna, friends, pets, vehicles, household items, and artists’ accoutrements compose tableaux at once simple and beguiling, staged in spaces that similarly enmesh the everyday and the visionary.★☆★Marked by whimsy, poetry, and tenderness, the pictures abound with cultural references—to folk music, cinema, toi whakairo, and European painting of the early 20th century. They are the work of an artist who takes his discipline seriously, turning his ear to old scores rather than seeking to settle them.★☆★Join us from 6 to 8pm on Friday 13 November to celebrate Old scores and Jennifer Laracy’s new show, Rivière.
