Kith and Kin comprises figure-based paintings by brunelle dias, Tony Guo, Levi Kereama, Claudia Kogachi, and the esteemed Jacqueline Fahey. It is dedicated to the memory of Kalavati Narsai (1954–2024).
Although stylistically different, the works included share an interest in notions of family and friendship, ancestry and diaspora, identity and belonging. They also feature a number of common elements, including emblems of faith, evocative interiors, fields seen from the sky, and items of food both everyday and symbolic. The show as a whole testifies to the importance of finding and strengthening community—particularly in the present moment, fraught as it is with anxiety and fracturing. Fahey is represented by Gow Langsford Gallery. We extend warm thanks to the gallery for enabling her inclusion.
