Colouring in stone, Moniek Schrijer’s first solo exhibition with Season, centres on a new collection of wearable pendants.
The works are made of cupronickel—a corrosion-resistant alloy of copper and nickel often used in coinage—and studded in mosaic fashion with gems, glass, and shells. Like other pieces by the artist, the pendants span the humble and the luxurious, the familiar and the alien, the ancient and the futuristic. As Kim Paton has observed, they are ‘talismans for an imagined future. Chest plates for a new age ... Charms of the highest order to guide us through uncertain times.’
