Season is delighted to present Whippersnapper, a new solo exhibition by Hamish Coleman.
Reflecting on the transition from youth to middle age, Coleman has created a body of work marked by wonder, whimsy, poetry, and pathos. The paintings are based on stills from videos casually recorded by the artist. Some evoke perspectives and sensations associated with childhood, while others are more overtly mature in outlook. The subjects are often unassuming, but Coleman has rendered them with great care, suggesting the way in which the everyday acquires importance and memory transforms into nostalgia. He invites us to slow down, look carefully, look twice—and to remember freedoms as well as responsibilities.
